Staterooms are one of those things that most cruise lines don't like to talk about a lot. Most cruise websites offer you floorplans, dimensions, and maybe even a peek at the rooms, but nobody really brags about them.
Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) has just made a splash with its so-called "New Wave" staterooms. The new design bowed on April 24, 2008 in Aker Yards, France (where they build ships) and won't be available till 2010. Even though you may have to wait a bit before you get inside a "wavy" stateroom, they're still pretty cool to look at.
The problem in stateroom design is space. Space is limited on any ship, so cruise ship designers have to figure out ways to maximize what space is available and also create the impression of having lots of room.
Although we couldn't get pictures, NCL says that the New Wave bathrooms are the best part of the re-design in that they have a separate toilet, separate sink with vanity, and separate tub/shower.
The most visible change in the room are the curved walls and the curving design. Color schemes are earth tones with dark woods.
The rooms will be high-tech, too, with a flat-screen TV and MP3 connectivity. For those of us who still love a low-tech cruise, look for Euro bed linens, Elemis shower products, and concealed lighting.
